BROWN MEMORIAL CHURCH
Lucy G Moses Preservation Award (2012)
Restoration was extensive and included ornamental plaster restoration, faux painting and straight painting. Rosettes were faux-gilded to match the original. During the restoration it was discovered that the original finish was tinted plaster made to look like stone. Each faux stone panel was painted a slightly different shade than the next. On April 25th 2012 the New York Landmarks Conservancy awarded the “Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award,” for the restoration work on the Church. The Award, nicknamed the “Preservation Oscars,” are the Conservancy’s highest honors for outstanding preservation of historic structures.
